Raloxifene Uses
Raloxifene is commonly used to address bone health and other conditions related to estrogen.
- Prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women
- Reduction in the risk of invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis
- Reduction in the risk of invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women at high risk for breast cancer
How Raloxifene Works
Raloxifene works by mimicking the effects of estrogen on certain parts of the body, such as bones. This helps to maintain bone density and reduce the risk of fractures.
While it acts like estrogen in some tissues, it blocks the effects of estrogen in others, such as breast tissue, which can help reduce the risk of breast cancer.
As a SERM, it selectively binds to estrogen receptors, producing beneficial effects on bone and lipid metabolism without stimulating breast or uterine tissues.
