How Rosuvastatin Works
Rosuvastatin works by blocking an enzyme in the liver that is responsible for making cholesterol. This enzyme is known as HMG-CoA reductase.
By inhibiting this enzyme, rosuvastatin effectively reduces the amount of cholesterol produced in the liver.
This leads to a decrease in total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and triglycerides, while increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.
