Saxagliptin Uses
Saxagliptin is primarily used to help control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

- Improvement of blood sugar control in combination with diet and exercise
- Possible use in combination with other diabetes medications
How Saxagliptin Works
Saxagliptin works by inhibiting an enzyme called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4). This enzyme breaks down incretin hormones, which are involved in the regulation of blood sugar levels.
By inhibiting DPP-4, saxagliptin increases the levels of incretin hormones, helping to stimulate insulin release and reduce the amount of sugar produced by the liver.
